Camp's Description

Located in Tuftonboro, NH, on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, our brother/sister camps bring together children, ages 8 to 15, of all races, religions, nationalities, and socio-economic backgrounds. Campers partake in traditional, fun-filled summer activities, while at the same time learning about themselves, their environment and each other.

Generations of North Woods and Pleasant Valley campers have enjoyed traditional camp activities combined with the lasting developments in programming. The enjoyment, friendships and excitement that come form camp are memories that last a lifetime.

Both North Woods and Pleasant Valley are centered on the core values of the YMCA Character Development: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. We strive to create an atmosphere where these values are reaffirmed daily. All campers are encouraged to take responsibility for their own actions, respect one another, practice integrity, and care about the well-being of their fellow campers. Staff members are expected to model these characteristics as well.

Cabin lie is central to the camp experience. Campers are divided into cabin groups by their age and grade they are entering in the fall. The cabin groups include: Juniors- campers between age 8 and 10; Trailers/Middlers- campers between ages 11 and 12, and Seniors- campers between ages 13 and 15 years old.

Campers and staff live in rustic cabins, each housing between 5 and 12 campers. Each cluster of cabins shares one of 6 full facility bathhouses located nearby.
