Camp's Description

"Our goal is to encourage growth and foster education and adventure in a program that is structured, but not regimented and that is non-competitive."

Since 1922, this residential summer camp in North Carolina has emphasized horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and tennis. Numerous wilderness trips are offered. The program is non-competitive and has an individualized focus.

Our goal is to build self-esteem while teaching community living skills, respect for the environment, and a love for the outdoors. We work hard on cooperation, and don't spend much time on competition, so there aren't any cups or ribbons or medals. We believe effort and reward are related, and the reward is sweeter when it's earned...

There are always activities for both the beginner and the advanced camper, so everyone progresses at their own pace. Some activities are scheduled a week in advance, some on the spur of the moment, but each camper has a lot of choice in what he does... Our program is structured, but not regimented. Just like in-camp activities, there are beginner trips and there are advanced trips, so everyone gets to experience overnight camping. Each camper's personal interests will influence just how much of his session is spent out on trips.

Join the adventure!!

Mondamin is great July 01, 2008

Our son just returned from his 3rd June camp at Mondamin. It is such a wonderful place! When we gave him the choice this year of going to camp or to Disney World he chose Mondamin without hesitation. They do such a great job helping the boys set goals and meet them. Our son is 10 and mastered sailing this year. The counselors have all been wonderful and seem like cool older brothers. They help guide the boys when needed, I've often joked that when you look up the word idyllic in the dictionary it has a picture of Mondamin. Highly recommend this camp!
