A kind and caring camp

My daughter has attended Camp Frontier for 9 years and has loved every year. She can't wait to go back. They have worked hard to creat a great camp experience for the kids. As a parent I appreciate the low camper to counselor ratio, and the prompt attention the one year my daughter got sick. I never had a problem with communication from the directors, although appropriately they call you back in the evening when they are not in front of kids. I also appreciate the no electronics policy. Kids need time to unplug. My daughter loves the great kids and her favorite activity is the high ropes course. She keeps in contact with several of the kids year round. I appreciate all they have done to give kids a traditional camp experience.

Bad Communication

After reading reviews I wanted to speak to the director about the facility. I received no phone call from him. I had been getting emails regarding signing up for the scholarship, but when he realized I wanted to ask about the facility and its treatment...no more emails. The woman I talked to on the phone told me he was too busy setting up the facility to take my calls or even return a call. Well if I am not the most important part of the facility, then I know my child isnt. I wouldn't send my child to this place now if it was free. My child is my most precious possession and bad communication is not something I wish to deal with for two weeks while my son is there overnight for the first time. Talk to the director BEFORE sending your child.

Child Safety

The camp staff did not protect my son from bullying by other boys in his cabin. As a result he suffered sleep deprivation and anxiety attacks. He was 12 years old and housed with the 13 and 14 year old boys, a few of them harrassed him daily. The staff and director just call it "homesickness". But after several months of therapy the doctor calls it disturbing and indifferent response to a child in distress. As a result of this neglect for my child safety and dismissive response from the Camp Director I would not recommend this camp. Also, keep in mind that they do not allow your child to contact you except by postal mail so I was out of the loop about this for several days while my son suffered and the adults in charge did not protect him.
