An Excellent Camp for Girls! December 19, 2006

Tanamakoon has given my daughter so much over the many years that she has attended! She was a quieter little girl when she first started-quite reserved really. Over the years I have seen a tremendous increase in her self esteem and self confidence. She has made a wonderful group of friends that she returns to spend each summer with in Algonquin! She often talks about the day she and her friends will be on staff together! The camp seems to offer a very sound program that is based on traditional camp activities rather than activity for activitys sake. There is a deliberate focus on the girls and their development rather than on the activity for programs sake. I know that my daughter loves the more rustic setting because she says that there is little or no competition the way there is at school! Having visited a number of times, I have seen a tremendous effort on the part of the camp to develop solid environmantal practices and a love for the natural world. The other thing that has imprressed me so much over the years is the quality of leadership that exists at this camp. The leaders are committed, loving, nurturing yet firm. Many times my daughter has refrred to something a counselor shared with her in the way of problem solving and lessons learned. Such wisdom and devotion is rare in this changing world. I am grateful that the decision I made years ago was the best for my child.
