A Camp the Staff Loves as much as the Campers!

This summer I had the pleasure of directing iD Tech at Smith College. The experience was one of the highlights of my year. Campers at iD Tech @ Smith have the unique experience to creatively extend their technological knowledge. As the director at a small overnight camp, I had the oppurtunity to get to know each camper, learn about their projects, and be consistently blown away by their talent and drive. My favorite part of the camp week was our Friday Family Showcase, when friends and families could get a behind the scenes look at our computer labs and got to test out the projects the campers had been working on all week. To witness the exchange between campers and parents of excitement and praise in the projects the campers had been working on all week was a truly touching moment.
Nestled in the lively Northampton community, Smith College is an ideal location. We made evening visits with the overnight campers into town and enjoyed the homey feel of the college's dormitories. Daytime and evening activities are organized by enthusiastic staff who love camp just as much as the campers - and sometimes more!

After a fantastic summer working for iD Tech Camps at Smith as an instructor I feel the need to recommend this camp to as many people as possible. This camp is very well run and extremely structured. There is not one minute of the day that is not planned out for the children in attendance. The projects which are created throughout the week are very impressive and the skills which are learned are something that will stick with the students for years to come. Lots of time is spent working on computers, however there is also a lot of time slotted for outdoor and non computer activities giving the perfect mix of activities. This camp is a great place to spend 1 week, or even more, as every week is different.

As a 4-year director for iD Tech Camps, I can say that they are an exceptionally well-run and organized camp. The whole team puts the safety and fun of the campers first. The main office creates an enjoyable and supportive environment for instructors and directors so that they can put on the best camp for the youth. Instructors are of the highest quality and undergo thorough background checks and in-person training before camp starts. iD pays extremely well and offers bonuses for returning staff - this keeps good staff returning, and returning staff make a strong camp. Campers enjoy a variety of activities outside of instruction (games, sports, town visits, extra lab time) that are of interest to the campers. Instruction is top-notch - instructors give hands-on lessons using industry-standard software (for instance, using Final Cut Pro for digital video courses). Because the ratio is so small, campers get a lot of attention. Instructors are trained to work with students at their own learning pace and style. They are also trained how to recognize stumbling blocks so that they can approach a problem from another angle. On-site and main office staff are easily accessible and, impressively, very caring. iD is committed to safety and fun, and you can see this in everything they do. The great experience keeps me coming back!
