| Camp Winadu is the perfect balance between sports and a traditional sleep-away camp. The love for the campers and staff starts from the top with Shelley and Bennie the directors, their influence and guidance was a key to myself and the rest of the camp having an amazing summer. I would recommend this camp to any family who is considering sending their son to a sports camp. |

Worst Summer experience..., Feb 01, 2010

| I was a counselor at Winadu in 2002 and would not recommend this camp to campers or college students seeking summer employment. While I enjoyed the campers in my bunk, I must say the work hours and politics at Winadu were not worth the experience. Counselors work six days a week, fourteen hours days (some days more when on bunk duty) and receive little pay considering what parents spend on the camp. In addition to that, during the last week of camp a few counselors were fired so management could save on the completion bonus. As one of the below posts mentioned, it really did feel like "Plantation Winadu" when I was there. I do not mean this post as a "flame" and am just sharing my experience. I would encourage those interested in attending this camp to read some of the more recent posts regarding Winadu (see www.campratingz.com). The turnover rate for counselors my year was 90%, which speaks volumes. I would be happy to answer any questions regarding my time at Winadu. -Derek dshepard@hds.harvard.edu |
