| As a camper at CBH in the mid-1980s, I was severely bullied and ostracized by my fellow campers. The staff was aware of the bullying, and did nothing to stop it; in retrospect, it's clear to me that they found it easier to assume that I'd done something to cause it. This was decades before anyone had ever heard of an "anti-bullying curriculum," but my experience was extreme even for the 1980s.
The counselors sleep separately from the campers, which makes it much less well supervised than many comparable camps.
I have daughters of my own, and noticed when looking at summer camps for them that these days, most summer camps include a disciplinary policy on their website that addresses bullying issues. There's absolutely nothing about a disciplinary policy on the CBH website, and when I e-mailed the director to ask how they deal with bullying issues, I got no response.
